Chapter Summary

This chapter examines the regulations and the provisions in Part A (Standards) and Part B (Guidelines) of the Code of the MLC, 2006 in Title 3. Title 3 comprises only two regulations and the related Code Part A, Standards, and Part B, Guidelines, dealing with the following areas such as accommodation and recreational facilities and food and catering. These two regulations are the most important for both seafarers and shipowners alike and significantly affect operational costs and ship design. In Title 3, especially Regulation 3.1 and the Code, which contains both the 'existing ship' flexibility and requirements that affect ship construction and equipment are among the most detailed Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006 provisions. The chapter shows the development and modernization of the existing maritime labour conventions that are consolidated by the MLC, 2006.
