Regulations For The Execution Of The Convention For The Protection Of Cultural Property In The Event Of Armed Conflict

Chapter Summary

On the entry into force of the Convention, the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization shall compile an international list consisting of all persons nominated by the High Contracting Parties as qualified to carry out the functions of Commissioner-General for Cultural Property. The Commissioner-General thus appointed shall, if need be, entrust to inspectors the functions of delegates of Protecting Powers as specified in the present Regulations. As soon as any High Contracting Party is engaged in an armed conflict, it shall appoint a representative for cultural property situated in its territory. When the safety of the property requires it, the depositary may, with the assent of the depositor, have the property transported to the territory of a third country, under the conditions laid down in the article. An International Register of Cultural Property under Special Protection shall be prepared.
