Chapter Summary

This section of the book Protecting Cultural Property in Armed Conflict discusses an Act of 8 March 2007 containing rules on the taking into custody of cultural property from an occupied territory during an armed conflict and for the initiation of proceedings for the return of such property (cultural property originating from occupied territory (return) act). The 1999 Second Protocol supplements the 'special protection' offered by the 1954 Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict ('the 1954 Hague Convention') with a system of 'enhanced protection'. The book addresses the nature and scope of enhanced protection.
