Chapter Summary

This introductory chapter examines human rights in action. It investigates the authority structures and patterns of fl ow that accompany the abstract human rights discourse in a concrete setting formed by the educational activities of the Scandinavian Network of Human Rights Experts, (SCANET). The chapter places the human rights discourse as articulated by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) at the heart of expansion. It explores a formal context, SCANET, in which human rights experts act as educators. The chapter has two levels. The general level explores the human rights phenomenon particularly in the Finnish context, and the specific level focuses on SCANET educational activities. It presents an overview of other chapters of the book are organized.
