Chapter Summary

This chapter investigates the type of soteriological images that exist among representatives of the contemporary Dutch believers. It describes the soteriological theoretical framework, and discusses the empirical result of the investigation. The chapter puts forward the results of the social location of these soteriological attitudes. The soteriological concepts can be divided into three dimensions: the dimension of transcendence, the temporal dimension, and the space dimension, which can be developed into two categories: the scope of salvation, and the realms of salvation. The transcendence dimension includes three salvation images: the absolute transcendent salvation, the immanent transcendence salvation, and the absolute immanent salvation. The temporal dimension consists of three salvation images which are the past-oriented salvation, the present-oriented salvation, and the future-oriented salvation. The scope of salvation includes three images, namely: exclusivism, inclusivism, and pluralism. The realms of salvation are sub-divided into two categories: salvation from and salvation for.
