Chapter Summary

EU bloc imperialism secures the support of domestic elites in the ACP regions that it seeks to plunder through economic partnership agreements. This chapter provides direct evidence, which highlights the tendencies among the critics of the EU EPA, focusing on the CARIFORUM-EU EPA, as the example. It presents the positions adopted by the different groups concerning the CARIFORUM-EU EPA, the only comprehensive EPA signed by an ACP region with European bloc imperialism at the time of writing. Its central contention is that the critics of the EPA merely want to see its reform, but not its overthrow, and are prepared to enter into a trade deal with EU bloc imperialism, and as such are tacit or open supporters of European bloc imperialism. The Caribbean region has a rich intellectual history on both the left and right of the ideological spectrum.
