Chapter Summary

This chapter is divided in to four sections. The first section deals with the Cao Cao's efforts to govern the Yan province after his defeat at Rongyang in Henan in 190. In the autumn of 191, Cao Cao attacks Black Mountain bandits in Yan province, then becomes Administrator of Dong commandery, and by next summer, he takes charge of Yan province to oppose the Yellow Turbans from Qing province. The second section talks about the fight for survival of Cao Cao during the period 193-195. In 195, Cao Cao gains decisive victory in Shanyang, and is acknowledged by Emperor Xian as Governor of Yan province. The third section of the chapter describes Cao Cao setting up his capital at Xu city in Yingchuan, and bringing the emperor to Xu city. The final section deals with the issue of guarding the emperor.
