Chapter Summary

A vulgate determines the possible stories of early Islam. Searching Islamic historiography sidelines of the Vulgate amounts to a large extent, to be interested in the narrative sources of different kinds; sources produced in the Syrian space or without a presentation of Sam, are particularly important in this regard. At the margin of the Vulgate does not necessarily mean that these sources represent an opposite approach to the historiographical canon Abbasid era. The past itself, both pre- and post-prophetic, was reworked in the Abbasid era, following successive rewrites and earlier at the discretion of selection strategies. To investigate the variety of Islamic sources, it is necessary to stand in relation to the body of chronographies. Then, the issue of non-Muslim sources to uncover the relationships between the different historiographies at work in the medieval Middle East can be addressed. The original text of the chapter is in French.
