This bibliography presents a list of reference material and articles relevant to the discussion of Syria under the last Umayyad and the early Abbasids during 2nd/8th century. By studying the making of Umayyad heroes or Abbasid origins-myths, this book reveals the successive meanings granted to Syrian history, and identifies the various layers of historical writing and rewriting during the first centuries of Islam. Umayyad and Abbasids nourished of ambitious architectural programs in Syrian airspace, the Foundation of the Mosque of Damascus to the 'desert castles', and large-scale projects in Raqqa region. In the perspective of history of the memory and history of the senses, this book offers a new approach to the Syrian area of the 2nd / 8th century, highlighting the historiographical projects and Abbasid Umayyad and practices of power.
