Chapter Summary

This is the conclusion chapter of the book, which focuses on the mental processes that accompany the experience of reading the Apocalypse. It describes the relevance of such processes in biblical scholarship and discusses different frames scholars have used in reading the text. The discussion maintains that original and contemporary readers and listeners undergo a complicated process while assuming their roles as the narratees of the Apocalypse. The book deals with the relationship between the factual and imaginative world of the Apocalypse. It explores: what constitutes the experience of the reader/narratees when they engage with the Apocalypse; how reader/narratees create an understanding of an imagined, visualized reality; and how real-life frames are part of the process of assigning meaning to the imagined. In the narratological analysis, the repositioning of the utilized Hebrew Scriptures is significant; the numerous allusions contribute to the uniqueness of the Apocalypse and enhance its imagistic presentations.

Keywords: Apocalypse; biblical scholarship; Hebrew Scriptures; narratees; narratological analysis; reading
