Chapter Summary

Fragments of Persian poetry appear on f. 1a, among these a quatrain attributed to 'Umar Khayyam and a distich attributed to Sa'di; '30 k?urus' in pencil. This chapter presents an album with miniature paintings. The album contains a collection of 170, not completely consistently numbered, watercolour drawings, originally belonging to several distinct series, with descriptions in Turkish, Turkish transcribed in Roman characters, and Dutch. The chapter also presents a scroll with paintings and a collection of letters, a story and poems. The collection which dates from the late 18th century contains texts in idiosyncratic spelling and, often incorrect, language.
