Chapter Summary

This chapter presents a list of ancient texts and authors, and proper nouns, terms and concepts that occur in the book Les traditions anciennes sur la Dormition et l'Assomption de Marie: Études littéraires, historiques et doctrinales. Some of the terms and concepts are obtained from canonical literature, hagiographic literature, homiletic literature, hymnographique literature and medieval literature. The book presents a survey of the homilies relevant to the Transitus Mariae. It focuses on the issue of the collyridiennes and also on the final fate of Mary. The collyridiennes are a group of Christian women mentioned by Epiphanius in his Panarion. The figure of Mary has played a fundamental role in the gradual takeover of the clergy at all levels of the medieval society. The original text of the chapter is in French.
