This chapter presents an overview of the development of China's relations with the UN during the period by highlighting some of the major changes in China's attitude toward the activities of the UN in various fields. The evolution of China's relations with the UN is the result of a variety of factors. It reflected the gradual maturing of China's multilateral diplomatic policy. At the same time, it is also the product of changes in the international environment, as well as change of China's judgment on the world situation. The reform and opening up process marked a turning point in China's relations with the UN. China's cooperation with the UN gained speed. Looking back at the evolution of relations between China and the UN, it can be noted that the adjustment of China's multilateral diplomacy has been a stable, cautious and gradual process.
