Chapter Summary

This appendix section contains information about five cycles of disputations: (i) Repetitio prima; (ii) Repetitio secunda; (iii) Repetitio tertia; (iv) Repetitio quarta; and (v) Repetitio quinta. The cycles or repetitiones, of disputations were at the heart of the Leiden theological curriculum. There were apparently some such cycles before 1597 (for earlier disputations are individually numbered), but disputations begin showing the numbering of cycles in 1604 during the 'third' cycle, implying a first and second before it. Some dates have been included in parentheses to provide chronological boundaries for the cycles.
