The medieval authors are alphabetized according to their Christian names. The book discusses the two best known of all philosophers in the Arabic tradition, Avicenna and Averroes, and they are both concerned with the relationship between logic and metaphysics. Avicenna had a hierarchical conception of knowledge, according to which metaphysics is distinct from, and superior to, logic.
