Chapter Summary

This chapter examines the seven collections registered in the period 1697-1732. In terms of content, the collections registered in the Trondheim clerical probate records prove that a considerable number of books were in circulation. The fourteen book collections listed vary in size from around sixty volumes to the impressive seven hundred. In terms of general outlook, the Trondheim book collections differ from those recorded in Bergen: The most remarkable feature of the Trondheim book collections is the impressive number of new names appearing in relation to both theological and non-theological literature. Three book collections are recorded in the period 1697-1732, and these belonged to Oluf Borchmand (ca 200 volumes), Nels Jul (ca 65 volumes) and Thomas von Westen (ca 700 volumes).
