Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book Bibliographia Karaitica: An Annotated Bibliography of Karaites and Karaism contains the preface to the series &t;Karaite texts and studies&t;, table of contents, and an introduction of the book. It also discusses the compilation process, contents and organization, use of abbreviations and original scripts, order of entries, translation and romanization of semitic, slavic, Turkic, and other items in less common languages, style, forms of names, slavic periodicals, locations and annotations. It is surprising that in all this time no one has attempted to compile a comprehensive bibliography of the Karaites that would provide a solid foundation for further research. This is the first comprehensive bibliography on the Karaites and Karaism. Including over 8,000 items in twenty languages, this bibliography, with its extensive annotations, thoroughly documents the present state of Karaite Studies and provides a solid foundation for future research.
