Chapter Summary

This chapter contains a list of studies that focus on Karaite Communities in the Middle East (Babylonia, Persia and Syria). Interest in Karaism has seen a significant and steady increase in recent years. Though academic interest in Karaism first appeared among European scholars during the seventeenth century, Karaism was drawn into the general debate of the emerging discipline of Jewish studies from the mid-nineteenth century by the groundbreaking research work of Simḥah Pinsker and Albert Harakavy.
