Chapter Summary

This chapter talks about the word Calvin speaks to the Roman church. It considers his word to the remnant, evangelical church of France. The chapter steps back to assess what Calvin is actually doing in these lectures. It focuses on Calvin's address to the former. Calvin's lectures on the Minor Prophets were integral to his work of calling out and establishing the remnant church. This chapter sought to link the aim (consilium) of the Old Testament prophets to that of Calvin. It sought to examine Calvin's work of establishing the remnant church in France and his fight against the Roman church and the Nicodemites. the chapter examines the character of Calvin's message to Rome and to the evangelicals and, in broader terms, sought to expound the ways in which his message to each played its part in the battle which he saw himself as engaged in.
