Chapter Summary

Acquainted with the Italian art at the court of his older brother in Buda, in 1502 King Sigismundstill as a princecommitted an Italian master from Florence, Francesco, with a renaissance reconstruction of the Wawel Castle in Cracow. This chapter presents Document 19, which comprises the letter of agreement of Mehmed Giray, the khan of Perekop [i.e., the Crimean khan], brought to His Majesty, the hospodar, to Toruń through Anikij Hornostaj, on the 5th of the month of April, during the 9th indiction. The document provides a list of the wealth owned by King Sigismund, and his children and grandchildren.
