Chapter Summary

An emigrant from Russia Alexandre Bennigsen gathered an excellent team of scholars able to study Ottoman, Crimean, as well as Russian sources and initiated the edition of documents from the Topkapi Palace Archives regarding the Crimean Khanate. Document 48, presented in this chapter, comprises the letter of agreement sent by Khan Mehmed III Giray to King Sigismund III. The letter was written in the second decade of the month named Muharrem of the year 1034, that is in the middle of the month of January of the year 1625.
