Chapter Summary

An emigrant from Russia Alexandre Bennigsen gathered an excellent team of scholars able to study Ottoman, Crimean, as well as Russian sources and initiated the edition of documents from the Topkapi Palace Archives regarding the Crimean Khanate. This chapter presents Document 50, which comprises a letter of agreement sent by Khan Djanibek Giray to King Vladislaus IV. In this letter, Khan Djanibek Giray requests King Vladislaus IV to expel his Cossack brigands from the Dnieper and to prevent the boats from going back to the Black Sea.
