An emigrant from Russia Alexandre Bennigsen gathered an excellent team of scholars able to study Ottoman, Crimean, as well as Russian sources and initiated the edition of documents from the Topkapi Palace Archives regarding the Crimean Khanate. This chapter presents Document 54, which comprises the letter of agreement, sent by King Vladislaus IV to Qalga Islam Giray. By sending the letter of agreement, King Vladislaus IV ensures that all his envoys and merchants will keep solid peace with Qalga Islam Giray, in all aspects, in accordance with the ancient agreements and the formerly sworn promise, engaging to be friends of each others friends and enemies of [each others] enemies.
