Chapter Summary

This commentary on the ethical fragments of Theophrastus is no. 6.1 in the series of commentaries that accompanies the two volume work Theophrastus of Eresus: Sources for his Life, Writings, Thought and Influence (often referred to as the text-translation volumes). The chapter on &t;The Texts&t; (IV) discusses the texts that are printed in the text-translation volumes within the section on &t;Ethics.&t; The discussion follows the order of the texts as printed (437-579A-B). The chapter on &t;Ethics&t; has seventeen subdivisions, between which there are occasional cross-references. The chapters on the &t;Titles of Books&t; and &t;The Texts&t; (III and IV) are followed by a &t;Summary&t; (V), which is intended to offer a brief overview of what has been established or rendered plausible in the preceding chapters. In conclusion, it is underlined the fact that this commentary volume contains comments on Arabic material by Dimitri Gutas.
