Chapter Summary

For the most part, the Greek and Latin sources as well as a single Italian source are discussed in chronological order. Exceptional are the &t;Anthologies, Gnomologies and Other Collections,&t; the &t;Lexicographers,&t; the &t;Scholia,&t; a &t;Catalogue of Books&t; and the &t;Arabic Sources.&t; To facilitate finding a particular source,it provides here an alphabetical listing of the sources followed by the number of its position in the discussion. In what follows, the authors and their works are discussed briefly in order in which they appear in the text-translation volumes. The books that follow are not unified wholes: the several chapters vary in topic and length. All three chapters are discussed, in their proper place among &t;The Texts,&t;. Second, an example concerning the Spartan King Cleomenes III is offered. The second book carries the heading &t;On Days.&t; It focuses on the seven days of the week beginning with Sunday.
