Chapter Summary

The family Pontano is derived its name from its origins in Ponte and especially emerged from a complete series scholar in the 15th century. However, the members of the family tried to ascend Pontano society, especially through education. A number of lawyers, Physicians and humanists came from the family during 16th century. Lodovico Pontano is the humanist appears in the Curia service. Gioviano Pontano is one of the most important scholarly personalities of the late 15th century and draws attention of young humanist by providing poetic writings. Gioviano Pontano had participated in important political functions on Neapolitan. His numerous works refer again and again to his Umbrian home and other family members as an important source not only for their own lives, but also for the history of the family Pontano.
