Chapter Summary

In the Netherlands a comprehensive inventory of egodocuments, both printed and in manuscript, was begun in the 1980s. To address the transnational complexity of egodocumentation, in recent years several international collaborative projects have commenced. The papers collected in this volume are the result of such collaboration, being the products of two research projects in the field of egodocuments and history. The first was the project &t;Egodocuments, self reflection and cultural change: the Netherlands, Switzerland and the European context, 1600-1900.&t; The second study was the research program, Controlling time and shaping the self: education, introspection and practices of writing in the Netherlands 17501914,. Its work has been to develop and explore new approaches in response to the questions raised by the contents of the Dutch inventory.
