On January 21, 1927, a new film magazine was launched in the Netherlands, titled Tuschinski Nieuws. One of the means employed by the editors to achieve their goal was the publication of the serial Vijftien jaar van mijn leven. It narrated the story of Abraham Tuschinski's career in the entertainment industry. Their stories about Holland's most famous film exhibitor are full of quotes and extensive paraphrases from Vijftien jaar van mijn leven, often without any proper references. Testing the validity of Tuschinski's autobiography on the level of its factual content has not been high on the priority list either. This chapter offers to make up for these deficiencies, while demonstrating how a critical reading of this specific type of autobiographical writing can help scholars to open up exciting new venues into the broader history of life writing as well as into the history of leisure and popular entertainment.
