Chapter Summary

This chapter presents a short description of the book Historia Iherosolimitana, 'Jerusalemite History of the First Crusade on Christian-Muslim Relations. The Historia Iherosolimitana is a Latin history of the First Crusade between the launching of the crusade at the Council of Clermont in November 1095, and the battle of Ascalon on 12 August 1099. The principal significance of the Historia Iherosolimitana lies in the fact that it was far more widely disseminated than any other of the Latin narratives of the First Crusade. In terms of attitudes towards the Muslim world, Robert's views are consonant with the dominant discourses of early crusade historiography, as well as of chansons de geste.
