Chapter Summary

This chapter provides an overview and structure of the book. The main body of the book includes 11 chapters. The first chapter is an overview of word order and sentence structure. Chapters 2 through 6 and Chapter 8 discuss the parts of speech. Chapter 7 and 9 treat verbless sentences and "be" and "have" sentences, respectively. Chapter 10 reviews discontinuous sentence connectors. Chapter 11 focuses on various lexical matters, including foreign words. Each chapter is accompanied by practice exercises geared for comprehension, requiring selection, identification, matching or categorization; some also call for translation.
