Chapter Summary

This index is the list of terms and names that occur in this book titled The American Road to Capitalism. The book is a Marxian intervention into the historical debates on the structure and trajectory of the US-economy in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and the causes and consequences of the US Civil War and Reconstruction. The intervention rests on the assumption that US economic and political development, while specific, is in no sense exceptional, as many historians claim. Instead, these processes can be analysed using the fundamental concepts of historical materialism.

Keywords:Capitalism; Civil War
