Chapter Summary

This chapter presents the facsimile reproductions of the original Arabic legal documents collected from Bedouin of the Judean Desert. The documents were collected during the second half of the 1970s. Legal documents are the personal property of the tribesmen and they are, understandably, loath to part with these important records, even for scientific purposes, unless they can feel confident that the documents will be returned to them safely. The Bedouin with whom we had dealings were specifically interested in obtaining transport facilities to hospitals and in our mediating with the military authorities to solve certain daily problems.
