This front matter section of this book contains the Table of Contents and foreword. Major parts of the work have been designed and written in 2002/03. The book offers a new look at the identity of a Roman Emperor originating in North Africa by examining visual evidence of the religious representation of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus. L. Septimius Severus came from a knightly family from Lepcis Magna in Africa Proconsularis. Septimius grew in Rome, went through the usual political career of a Member of a distinguished family and was in under Marcus Aurelius. The original text of the chapter is in German.
