Chapter Summary

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of the concepts discussed in the book. As it is quite easy to see, the problem of matter, paradoxical as it may seem, occupies one of the most formidable pages and most demanding of Western metaphysics. This book attempts to clarify the philosophical background of the controversial question of the nature of the sensible world the first substrate. The book XI of Proclum Contra Philoponus occupies in this background of place. The motivations of the second part of Contra Proclum, Book XI were more difficult to decipher. It was necessary to understand the presuppositions of Philoponus. After Philoponus and a few decades later after Simplicius, the question of the raw material of the universe seems like back in the shadows. The original text of the chapter is in French.
