Chapter Summary

This chapter begins with some passages of the New Songs of the Beloved Man. In the New Songs of the Beloved Man, there is also only one temporal indication which tends towards morning. Like the preceding New Songs of the Beloved Woman, so too the New Songs of the Beloved Man are characterised by a dialogic structure. The man (a: 6:4-9, 11-12; 7:1c, 2-10a) dialogues here first with a chorus (b: 6:10; 7:1abd), then, finally, with the woman (c: 7:10b-11). This final intervention of the woman corresponds chiastically to that of the man at the beginning of the preceding composition.
