Chapter Summary

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the book Le pouvoir impérial dans les provinces syriennes. The book discusses some "constants" in Syrian provinces from Augustus to Constantine regarding the apprehension of representations and celebrations of imperial power. The official reference of the imperial figurative representations is usually written in Greek. Greek and Roman acculturation in the long term is well established for a long time, and it is perfectly clear that the Roman imperial power found its safest relay in civic elites Hellenized Middle East. Certificates of thiasoi Semitic and activity of Dionysian technites are particularly exploited by the imperial power from Trajan and Hadrian in order to strengthen the foundation policy of Rome in the heart of cities. Examination of epigraphic, numismatic and archaeological sources suggests that Hadrian redrew the eparchies of the imperial cult. The original text of the chapter is in French.
