Chapter Summary

This work brought the author to the attention of Richard Walther Darré, the future agricultural specialist of the Third Reich, and gained him entry to the social and intellectual circles of the National Socialists. Ruppin's diary entry is one of the two direct pieces of evidence concerning that meeting. As noted above, it was Ruppin who established the first contacts between the parties and set the "spirit of the contract," an important understanding that gave impetus to the most efficient implementation of the agreement. Weizmann, who worked closely with Ruppin, read it and had to warn Namier not to be so open in expressing their common toleration of Nazism. At the beginning they write: "The Jew will naturally oppose any discussion of race, since the denial of any significant differences between people is the foundation of his infiltration of Western European society.
