Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book titled The Dead Sea Scrolls in Scholarly Perspective: A History of Research contains the table of contents, the preface, the abbreviations of frequently cited works, and other. The book was conceived from the urgent need to preserve whatever information has been garnered and kept by scholars of the second generation, who had the benefit of close personal contact with the members of the original international team. In addition, it was felt that light could be shed upon the somewhat erratic and at times confusing developments in Qumran studies by a sober evaluation together with clear bibliographical references, the idea to survey Qumran scholarship through the lenses of the respective countries involved sprang from the conviction that each of them reflected the events surrounding the discovery and research of the Scrolls in its own way.
