Chapter Summary

This chapter discusses various indictments against Sam Hinga Norman, Moinina Fofana, and Allieu Kondewa both before and after the joinder of their separate cases into a single trial in the special court for Sierra Leone. It is subdivided into various headings such as accused, general allegations, individual crime responsibility, charges, unlawful killings, physical violence and mental suffering, looting and burning, terrorizing the civilian population and collective punishments for each of the individual persons. The prosecution alleged that Norman, Fofana, and Kondewa were the top leaders of the Civil Defence Forces (CDF), which fought in Sierra Leone between November 1996 and December 1999. Norman is referred to throughout the Judgement as the "First Accused". Norman, Fofana, and Kondewa were separately charged with 8 counts of Crimes against Humanity, Violations of Article 3 Common to the Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocol II, and other Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law.
