Chapter Summary

Marco Adriano Fanno was born on 8 August 1878 in the Ghetto Contrada del Rujo, the Jewish quarter of Conegliano Veneto in the province of Treviso. Marco Fanno rendered military service during the Great War, but he was sent to the war zone only for seven months and, therefore, could not obtain the War Merit Cross, which would have helped him to be discriminated. In his application letter from December 1938 that was originally accompanied by well over 59 attachments, Fanno consequently provided a very detailed memorial of his other merits as a citizen, a soldier, a master, and a man of science. As he wrote in his Introduzione allo studio della teoria economica del corporativismo, one of his numerous publications, the goal of his research in economics was to show the superiority of corporatist economies in general, and of the Italian one in particular, vis-à-vis liberal and collectivist economies.
