Chapter Summary

Bruno Lattes highlighted in his letter that foreign to political sects and parties, alien to public accolades and honours, and devoted only to study and work, he had been always a man of order and as such he supported the movement of national reconstruction from its very beginning. The Bishop of Treviso, Antonio Mantiero, advocated Lattes's case in a letter to Cardinal Secretary of State Maglione, who routinely forwarded the pertinent documentation to Tacchi Venturi. The Jesuit interceded with Undersecretary Buffarini, underscoring Lattes's generous charitable work, but no further information on his case is available in the Jesuit's archive. In his Bruno Abramo Lattes. Da Istrana a Lugano, e ritorno, Roberto Pignatiello described how Professor Lattes survived the Holocaust in Switzerland and came back to Istrana at the end of the war.
