Chapter Summary

Austria has been a member of the Council of Europe since 1956, and of the European Union since 1995. This chapter commences with the constitutional provisions, the relevant provisions of the Austrian Federal Constitutional Law of 1920, as amended up to 24 April 2010. These are Articles 7, 8, 9, 14, and 15. Next, the chapter presents Human Rights Related Legislation, which includes the Treaty of Saint-Germain-En-Laye of 1920, Prohibition Act of 1945, as Amended up to 1992, and The Law of Insignia of 1960, as Amended up to 1980. Included in Non-Discrimination, is the Federal Act Governing Equal Treatment of 2004. Then, the chapter moves to Federal Act on the Legal Status of Ethnic Groups in Austria of 7 July 1976, as Amended up to 2009 and The Ombudsman for Equal Treatment .
