Chapter Summary

Croatia has been a candidate country for EU membership since June 2004 and has also been a member of the Council of Europe since 1996. On 9 December 2011 Croatia signed the Accession treaty, which will allow Croatia to become the 28th member of the European Union on 1 July 2013. This chapter commences with the constitutional provisions which covers articles the relevant provisions of the Constitution of Croatia of 22 December 1990, as amended up to 2010. Further, the chapter presents penal code provisions and which include Criminal Code of 1998 as Amended up to 2003. The Anti-Discrimination Act of 2009 and Labour Act of 2003, as Amended up to 2004 are included in Non-Discrimination. Included in protection of minorities is the Constitutional Law on the Rights of National Minorities of 2002. Finally, equality bodies/ombudsman is presented which includes the Law on the Ombudsman of 1992.
