Chapter Summary

The Republic of Ireland is a founding member of the Council of Europe, and member of the European Union since 1973. It occupies five sixths of the island of Ireland which was partitioned into two jurisdictions in 1921. This chapter commences with the constitutional provisions, the relevant provisions of the Constitution of Ireland of 1 July 1937, as amended up to 24 June 2004. Next, the chapter presents Human Rights Related Legislation, which includes Genocide Act of 1973 and Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act of 1989. Included in Non-Discrimination, is the Employment Equality Acts 1998-2008, as Amended up to 2008 and Equal Status Acts 2000-2008, as Amended up to 2008. Then, the chapter moves to the Employment Equality Acts 1998-2008; the Equal Status Acts 2000-2008 and the Pensions Acts 1990-2008 Ombudsman for Equal Treatment .
