Chapter Summary

The Netherlands is a founding member of both the European Union and the Council of Europe. This chapter commences with the constitutional provisions, the relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Kingdom of the Netherlands of 17 February 1983, as amended up to 2002. Next the chapter presents human rights related legislation and the penal code which includes Act Containing Rules Concerning Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law of 2003 ("International Crimes Act"). Then, the chapter presents the penal code provisions and Non-discrimination which include Penal Code of 1881, as Amended up to 2009 and Equal Treatment Act 1994, as Amended up to 9 September 2004. Finally the chapter presents equality bodies / ombudsman which says, The Equal Treatment Commission was established on 1 January 1995, the Equal Treatment Act of 1994. The Commission is responsible for monitoring equal treatment legislation.
