Chapter Summary

Portugal has been a member of the Council of Europe since 1976, and of the European Union since 1986. This chapter commences with the constitutional provisions, the relevant provisions of the Constitution of Portugal of 2 April 1976, as amended up to 2005. Next, it presents Human Rights Related Legislation which includes Human Rights Related Legislation Law on Fascist Organizations of 1978. The chapter then moves on to Penal Code Provisions which include Criminal Code of 1982, as Amended up to 2008. Included in Non-Discrimination is Law Prohibiting Discrimination in the Exercise of Rights on the Basis of Race, Colour, Nationality or Ethnic Origin, of 1999, Law on Television of 2003, Labour Code of 2003, as Amended up to 2010, Law of 2004 and Law on Sports of 2004. Finally, the chapter presents Equality Bodies/Ombudsman which talk about Law on the Ombudsman of 1991, as Amended up to 2005.
