Chapter Summary

Sweden is a founding member of the Council of Europe, and a member of the European Union since 1995. This chapter presents the relevant provisions of the Constitutional acts of Sweden, as amended up to 2011, including the instrument of government act of 1974, and the fundamental law on freedom of expression of 1992, as amended up to 2003, and the freedom of the press act of 1978, as amended up to 1999. It describes human rights related legislation, including act against genocide of 1964, and penal code provisions, including penal code of 1 january 1965, as amended up to 2011. Further, the chapter discusses the provisions on non-discrimination, protection of minorities, and equality bodies/ombudsman.
