Chapter Summary

The first section of this conclusory summarises issues of power and ideology from Basileis to Strategos and also evaluates the concept of 'Hellenistic koine and redefines it in a local context. The second section, will also attempt to consider in a more inclusive way non-elite conditions of human life, 'anonymous' structures, including agents which create their inhabited worlds, consciously or unconsciously interacting with the existing social (political, cultural and geographical) structures. Thus, the separation between the two sections is completely artificial and made only for structural reasons. Finally, this chapter will conclude by evaluating the contribution of this work and addressing the scope of new avenues of research that this project has opened up for Cypriot history and archaeology specifically, and for the Mediterranean in general.

Keywords:Basileis; Cypriot history; Hellenistic koine; Mediterranean; Strategos
