Chapter Summary

This appendix section of the book 'The Preservation of Jewish Religious Books in Sixteenth-Century Germany: Johannes Reuchlin's Augenspiegel' presents a list of patristic sources. The book is the first complete English translation with a Commentary and notes on the Johannes Reuchlin's Augenspiegel. It describes the libel affair that led to the immediate publication of the Augenspiegel and the controversial debate that followed. It suggests how the publication led to a widespread reawaking of scholarly interest in Jewish books and to the first serious consideration of Judaism as a coexistant religion in a Christian society.
