Chapter Summary

This appendix presents a chronological table of key events and major organisations relevant to the examination of the role of alternative spaces in social movements that attempt to empower social withdrawers and so-called people "not in employment, education or training" (NEET). The organizers of alternative spaces face a variety of tasks that can easily enter into conflict with each other. Freeter unions, unlike most support organisations, offer a more radical approach that involves contesting and rearticulating the very construction of "social problems".

Keywords: alternative spaces; Freeter unions; NEET; social movements
